Look what I found while reading the Guardian Weekend magazine on Sunday:
This uber talented lady is called Laura McCafferty. Here's a close up of the piece of art she's holding:
That's applique - right there!
As Charlotte Abrahams says in the Guardian article, McCafferty uses "a blend of traditional craft and contemporary, documentary-style illustration." She uses fabric applique, then screen-prints, then hand sews onto each piece. I love the contrast of strong colourful planes of colour with the intricate illustrated line.
