Day Two - Vintage Illustration: Rudyard Kipling

This is from Rudyard Kipling's "Just So Stories", published in 1950, with illustrations by the author. Until today I had no idea that Kipling illustrated as well as wrote. I love this image, it jumped out at me as I flipped through the book, so stark and graphic.

Edit: Being a fool, I forgot to link to Pip's brilliant blog for more info on this meme!

The Cat That Walked By Himself, and all places were alike to him. One of my very favorite stories as a child. And I have this book too! So many good memories this week. Thanks for showing that wonderful illustration.

Ooh.. I am blushing! What about YOUR brilliant blog?! We were chatting about how GOOD it was at Brown Owls last night!

I love this illustration - it's so very beautiful and detailed - I like it that you see the little details in life! It's all about the details, isn't it!?

I have the Finnish translation printed in 1925, and I just love the long explanations Kipling has written to his illustrations. He is complaining because he was not allowed to color his drawings etc. I'll post something from my book later.
